Grid File System Working Group (GFS-WG)
Group Information
Group Type: Working Group
Group Chair(s): Arun Jagatheesan, Osamu Tatebe
Group Secretary(s): Chris Jordan

Group Description
GFS-WG works on standard service interface(s) and architecture of a logical file system that can be used in data grid management systems for both inter and intra enterprise grid environments. This group also collaborates with the SNIA ILM and other similar efforts in the industry.

Group Focus and Scope
Data Grids provide a logical view or organization of unstructured data (and any other digital entity) that can be distributed in multiple adminstrative domains that participate in a Grid. The view provided by the data grid is very similar to that of an hierarchical tree-like organization used in tradiational file systems. Grid File System (GFS) provides this logical hierachical view of data and other digital entities in a data grid. GFS Working Group works on providing standard GFS service interface and architecture that can be used in Data Grids and Data Grid Management Systems.
