Recent News

The OGF standards concil had a face-to-face meeting in August. During an Editor Business discussion, these points were raised:

  • Some changes to GFD-C1 (currently in draft form with updates) will indicate changes discussed below. Goal is to have a draft for OGF18 in Washington
  • All forthcoming documents will be listed as "OGF" rather than "GGF." Greg will prepare a new document template.
  • Agreement that it would be more efficient for the cognizent council (Standards, Community, etc.) to do the main work of "approval" for a document. Then, for the GFSG to give the final go-ahead for publication.
    • standards council discusses any pending docs every week
    • council passes docs to the regular GFSG meetings via email, with a one-week turnaround. If no objection or need for further discussion, doc action will be automatically approved
  • Reminder of the value of transparency of documents in process within working groups.
    • docs need to have a standard naming scheme
    • add docs in process (at some level of readiness for public consumption) to the living charter
    • continue to assemble all of the drafts for discussion at GGF meetings prior to the meetings
    • maintain an FTP-accessible date-sortable repository (with standard filenames) that is always accessible for the latest doc drafts

Some types of docs might not fit this model, such as research publications from the research conferences. Also, other councils might want/require a different process.

  • Pre-numbering. There is not agreement about whether pre-allocating GFD numbers is desirable. ACTION is Greg and Joel will look into a tinyurl-like scheme that might remove the need for pre-allocated numbers (instead, there can be a static URL).
  • Errata. Hiro did a nice presentation on an errata process that is similar in some ways to W3C's process. Greg and Hiro will write this up as an element of GFD-C1 revisions.
